Formind Training Forest Department Sarawak, 26-27 November 2018

A training course on FORMIND and FORMIND-GUI was held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia on 26-27 of November 2018 for members of the Sarawak Forest Department. The training was organized by International Forest Management Consultants Sdn. Bhd. (ifmc).

The Sarawak State Forestry Authority aims to calculate the Annual Allowable Cut (AAC) in its forest concessions according to strict sustainability criteria and to specify it to licensees. FORMIND is used to simulate various usage scenarios over 200 years based on current inventory data of each forest concession. The simulation results are checked for sustainability using various calculated parameters.

The content of the training was an introduction to FORMIND (GUI), the importance of AAC and various sustainability criteria, and the practical application of FORMIND on the basis of concrete inventory data. A continuation is planned for spring 2019.

UMS and ifmc are jointly working on the development and application of FORMIND for practical management issues in tropical forest management.
