FORMIND has been applied on forests in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.
This image shows a visualization of a mountainous tropical forest in Ecuador. Tree species are grouped into seven plant functional types. Trees colored in red represent shade-tolerant species, trees in green light-demanding species and trees in blue intermediate successional species. The disturbed areas that occur are caused by landslides. Immediately after the disturbance, the competition for light and space is low, so light-demanding species can establish. In late successional phase shade-tolerant species begin to dominate the disturbed area.
