1st FORMIND workshop in Malaysia – Simulation and AAC Calculation
As part of the verification of the sustainability use of forests in Sarawak on Borneo (Malaysia), the Forest Department Sarawak in Kuching wants to adapt the methodology for setting the Annual Allowable Cut (AAC). This is particularly important for the certification required for forest areas within the “Heart of Borneo” area. The use of FORMIND is envisaged for calculating the AAC and proving sustainability. To this end, a two-day workshop was held in September 2017 with selected staff from the Forest Department of Sarawak and the Sarawak Forestry Corporation. The aim of the workshop was to practice the use of FORMIND and to simulate different usage scenarios (variation minimum and maximum number of trees, length of the logging cycle) and to check for sustainability. A first parameterization of FORMIND for Borneo is available and will be continuously revised.
