PLANT FUNCTIONAL TYPES
Tree species are aggregated into plant functional types (PFT). Tree species are grouped into late successional stage (shade-tolerant species), early successional stage (light-demanding species) and intermediate successional stage.
Visualization of a FORMIND simulation study. One hectare of simulated typical tropical forest is visualized realistically (left) and descriptively (right) by coloring the tree crowns according to their assigned PFT.
