What do the structure of tropical forests and the packing of apples in a box have in common? A team of Formind developers has now established a new model which can be used to explain the tree size distribution in natural forests. Main idea of this new approach is to pack tree crowns. Trees (cylinder as stem and sphere as crown) have been randomly placed in a finite space.
Forest modelling experts from Europe are currently discussing the perspectives of modelling @UFZ_de. Topics include droughts and forest management, remote sensing, AI, but also theory. Forest modelling helps us to understand the state of our forests and to study forest futures.

⏰Don't forget to submit your abstracts by 1 April! The #ECEM23 will take place @UFZ_de in #Leipzig with this year's theme: Ecological Modelling of #Transformation.
Submission via: https://ecem23.eu/callforabstracts/.
This week we have the FORMIND Developer Days with a wide programme of coding and scientific discussions. We are also revising the FORMIND manual. Be curious about the update.
Nothing beats an onside event with great colleagues. #forest #modeling @UFZ_de
⏰The deadline for session proposals has been extended! Send your ideas on ecological modelling for #transformation by Wednesday 18. All information about #ECEM23 on our homepage: http://ecem23.eu.
